New resource shares knowledge about the needs and experiences of disabled parents

The Families Commission has released a resource that shares knowledge about the needs and experiences of disabled parents.

It has drawn on selected national and international research, strategies and other material. It has also carried out a small number of consultations with disabled parents and agencies working in the disability sector, and looked at findings from other consultations and forums such as those undertaken by the Ministry of Health.

It is hoped that the resource will prompt further consideration of the diverse needs and experiences of disabled parents, whose perspectives must be taken into account when policies and practices are being developed or reviewed.
