Denise Roche MP has drafted the Charities (Charities as Advocates) Amendment Bill, which will deem ‘advocacy’ to be a legitimate part of charitable activities.
Currently under the Charities Act, advocacy is not deemed a ‘charitable purpose’. Community organisations already spend much of their time advocating, and many are excluded from charitable status because of this.
Denise is seeking feedback on the draft bill, and acknowledges that there may well be fishhooks she haven’t considered.

Denise aims to put this Bill in the member’s ballot in February 2013, so if you can, please pass on your thoughts and feedback by 6 February 2013. Please email your comments to email@example.com.
