The Dunedin City Council has released a new information pack, designed to help employers looking to hire migrant staff.
The pack merges the Economic Development Unit’s own locally developed material with information from several different agencies and will help new migrant workers settle in the city.
The information pack concept was developed because it became apparent that employers and recruitment agencies were largely unaware of the resources and tools available to assist them to attract, settle and retain migrant employees.
A free orientation programme and tour of the city is also available to migrant employees. It includes a session on how the city works and how to make connections with groups such as the Citizens Advice Bureau and other community organisations, as well as how to join the Dunedin City Library. There are also presentations about New Zealand law, finance, taxation and finding accommodation.
Participants are also taken on an orientation tour of the city and shown the location of key Government departments, city facilities and a few of the main sights as well as receiving hard to find ‘local knowledge’.
